SUMMARY:
This project was about 404 pages. A 404 page is a page that doesn’t exist. 404 pages can be funny or informational designs for a brand or company. They also can be interactive. For example, Google has a game for their 404 page. I used Adobe Express to create various 404 pages. I first used various ideation techniques such as mind mapping, stickies, worst possible ideas, body storm, and speed sketches. Finally I picked my topics then refined and tightened up the sketches. Then created my 404 page.
GOALS:
I wanted to learn more about Adobe Express. The application taught me more about how to animate. I learned how to make an engaging page by also thinking about type and layout. I was able to grow my knowledge of Adobe creative suite apps.
IDEATION EXERCISES:
I did various different ideation processes. I first did a mind mapping exercise with my peers. We discussed various 404 pages we liked and the qualities we liked about them. Then I did a speed ideation process. Writing down every idea I had in five mins. Then I did a speed sketch ideation exercise. Drawing different ideas in one min. From these exercises I picked the best ideas and created a storyboard from these ideas.
FINAL DESIGN:
I came up with three different ideas: bigfoot theme, Sweets theme, and Sports theme. I then created animations or picked out videos for my designs. I created engaging phrases for my design for example. The Bigfoot design was “Sorry this page doesn’t exist… or does it.” I wanted to play off the theory of whether Bigfoot exists or not. I then picked out fonts and layouts of my designs. For each of my designs I researched the style of fonts that go with the themes of my designs.
ADOBE EXPRESS BUILD:
When building my work in adobe express. I first created illustrations using Adobe Illustrator. I then plugged those illustrations into Adobe Express. I then used the animation tool to adjust the movement of my animations. I also used the video tools and adjusted the speed of the text and the movement of the text. I played around with the text affect feature. However, I didn’t use the feature on any of my designs.
FINAL WORK:
I used Adobe Express and AI elements to help create this work.
KNOWLEDGE GAINED:
I was able to grow my understanding of more Adobe Creative Suites apps. I enjoyed learning how to create animated text and illustrations using Adobe Express. I learned new exercises for ideation that will help me in the future. I continued to learn more about type and layout and how to apply this to 404 pages. Overall, It was a fun interactive project that I would love to do again.
